An Iowa City man was arrested over the weekend after an alleged assault on his domestic partner.

Police were called to a residence on the 300 block of Finkbine Lane Sunday morning on reports of a fight between a male and female.  Upon arrival, the officer reportedly observed 38-year-old Joel Goldsberry walking toward the woman, while she was crying, backing away from him, and telling him to stay away from her.

The woman was interviewed; she stated that she and  Goldsberry had been in bed together when they started to argue.  Goldsberry allegedly put his hands around her neck and choked her.  The woman stated that she had trouble breathing while being choked and feared that Goldsberry was going to seriously hurt her.

Goldsberry reportedly slapped the woman in the face when he stopped choking her.

He was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault impeding Airflow, an aggravated misdemeanor. A no-contact order was issued by Judge Jason Burns on Monday.
