An Iowa City woman’s alleged behavior belied her name after a traffic stop turned into OWI and other charges.
20-year-old Princess Payne of Gryn Drive was stopped at the Casey’s on North Dubuque Street for failure to dim her lights. Upon contact, she reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, impaired speech, unsteady balance and the odor of ingested alcohol. After performing poorly on field sobriety tests, Payne allegedly denied drinking initially, but then later admitted to having “about a cup.” A Datamaster reading of .136 percent was obtained.
Police say Payne refused to put her hands behind her back, refused to walk to a patrol car and had to be carried. Once at the car, Payne reportedly refused to get in the back of the car and had to be forced inside. She allegedly kicked at the officer repeatedly during the process.
Payne was charged with OWI first offense, Interference with Official Acts, and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail.
