The building that formerly housed the Iowa River Power restaurant has been sold to an Illinois company.
That’s according to records obtained by KCRG TV-9. They show the property was sold to Old Gold LLC last month. The company is owned by University of Iowa graduate Mark Kaufman, who lives in the Chicago area.
Earlier this week the Coralville city council approved tax incentives for the Hayden Fry Way property aimed at helping Old Gold improve the building while maintaining its historic features.
Council members told KCRG they have not been told of Old Gold’s specific plans for the location.
Iowa River Power was forced to close last November after previous property owner Randy Ward declined to renew the restaurant’s lease.
