Second vice president for research candidate meets with UI community

The second of two candidates for University of Iowa vice president for research met with the UI community earlier this week.

David Schwebel is associate vice president for research facilities and infrastructure and university professor of psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He’s served in various leadership positions at the University of Alabama at Birmingham since 2006. Schwebel earned a Master of Arts and a PhD in clinical psychology from the UI in 1996 and 2000, respectively.

Schwebel met with faculty, staff, students, shared governance and campus leadership on Wednesday at the Medical Education Research Facility on Newton Road. The other current candidate for vice president for research, Belinda McSwain Sturm, met with members of the UI community at the same location on October 10th. Sturm is the director of the Kansas National Science Foundation’s Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) and professor and Ross McKinney Faculty Fellow in environmental engineering at the University of Kansas.

No timetable for making a hire has been released.
