A Williamsburg man was charged with his third OWI after motorists reportedly witnessed him unconscious in his vehicle at a busy intersection.

Just before 7:30pm Monday, 33-year-old Nelson Williams was stopped at the intersection of Coral Ridge Avenue and Commerce Drive, and believed to be unconscious. Arriving first responders found him seated in the driver’s seat with the vehicle running and in drive. He was woken and told to put his vehicle in park and turn it off.

An open container of liquor was allegedly observed on the passenger floorboard.

Williams reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, and had the odor of ingested alcohol.  He refused numerous requests to provide any sort of identification, and had slurred speech.  He allegedly refused all forms of testing, including field sobriety tests, a PBT, a Datamaster, and chemical testing.

Williams was eventually identified, and a check of his driving record found his status as barred for being an habitual offender, revoked for a second OWI conviction in February of this year, and suspended for non-payment of fines.  His vehicle also did not have a required ignition interlock device.

In addition to OWI third offense, Williams was charged with Driving while Revoked, Driving While Barred, Interference with Official Acts, and Operating without Interlock. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over eight years in prison.
