A Coralville man faces charges after a traffic stop resulted in his getting charged with OWI.

29-year-old Ezra Reiners of Coral Court was reportedly observed driving eastbound on Burlington Street Saturday night when he crossed over double yellow lines with both his front and back left tires. A traffic stop was initiated at College and Gilbert Streets.

Upon contact, police say Reiners had the odor of ingested alcohol and bloodshot watery eyes. He was also allegedly wearing a bar wristband.

Reiners was asked for ID multiple times, but reportedly repeated that he didn’t have any. He was asked to step out of the vehicle, and tried to run. He was brought to the ground and refused to comply with commands to put his hands behind his back.

Reiners was placed under arrest, and a search of his person allegedly turned up his ID. A check of his records showed two active warrants, one for failure to appear at a parole revocation hearing, and another to face a charge of driving while revoked. His driving status was found to be barred. He refused to participate in field tests, PBT, Datamaster or chemical testing.

Reiners had three previous OWIs; two in Polk County and the most recent one in Johnson County from 2022.

Reiners was charged with OWI third offense and Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.
