An Iowa City man was arrested after he allegedly stole a mower deck, cut off its wheels, and repainted it to avoid being caught.
According to the arrest report, 59-year-old Randy Cole of Cherokee Trail reportedly drove his Dodge Ram truck to the 1800 block of Stevens Drive at approximately 8:48 am September 9th. Video footage from the incident allegedly showed Cole backing his truck near a yellow 42-inch mower deck, putting the deck in the back of his truck, and driving away.
The mower was located with Cole at his residence. The victim told officers that the deck was his, and that the wheels had been cut off and been repainted.
The deck is valued at approximately $600.
Cole was arrested and charged with 4th degree theft against an Older Individual, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to two years if convicted.
