A University of Iowa Engineering student was charged with Public Intoxication early Friday after he was reportedly observed carrying a traffic sign.

Police stopped the 20-year-old while he was walking east on Burlington Street between Gilbert and Van Buren streets just after 2am.  An odor of alcoholic beverages was allegedly detected, and he reportedly stated that he had a few alcoholic beverages that evening.

The student refused a PBT. The arrest report did not specify whether he explained how he came in possession of the sign.

He was charged with Public Intoxication; a non-jury trial will be held January 9th.
