Former Johnson County Auditor Travis Weipert has announced on social media that he is taking a new position out of state.

Weipert, who resigned from his office due to personal health reasons on July 25th, says he’s accepted the Registration and Elections Manager position in DeKalb County, Georgia.

According to Wikipedia, its population in the 2020 census was 764,382, making it Georgia’s fourth-most populous county.

DeKalb County is included in the Atlanta–Sandy Springs–Roswell metropolitan area.

Weipert was first elected Johnson County Auditor in 2012. He did not disclose the nature of his health challenges in his resignation letter.

Deputy Auditor Erin Shane is filling out Weipert’s term, which ends this year. At a special convention on August 24th, Johnson County Democrats chose Swisher Mayor Julie Persons to run for the Auditor’s position. She is set to become the first female auditor in Johnson County in nearly 50 years, as she is running unopposed.
