Alcohol sales at Kinnick Stadium during the 2023 football season showed a marked increase from the year before.
The Gazette reports it got figures from an open records request. They found Iowa Athletics netted $3.2 million in revenue after sales tax from 2023 Iowa football home games, a 29 percent increase from the 2022 figures.
The game with the most alcohol sales was the loss to Minnesota on October 21st. The game netted nearly $540,000 in sales.
Iowa received another $1.3 million from alcohol sales at all non-football sporting events during the 2023-24 academic year, including basketball, wrestling, baseball and softball. That was up 45 percent from 2022-23. The biggest sales in a non-football game was the women’s basketball Crossover at Kinnick, also in October. Women’s basketball was the second-highest sport in alcohol sales.
Alcohol sales started in the fall of 2021. A total of $3 million was sold schoolwide in that first year and has grown since.
