An Iowa City man was taken into custody early Sunday after allegedly being involved in a downtown fight.

The incident occurred a little after 1:30am near the intersection of Linn and College streets.  Anthony Biancalana of East Washington Street, who just turned 21 Saturday, was allegedly observed by officers engaging in an altercation, pushing and punching other people.

He was observed with bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of ingested alcohol.

Biancalana reportedly ran from officers despite them telling him to stop. He was eventually caught and detained. An officer sustained injuries from the incident.

Biancalana allegedly admitted to being in a fight. He refused a post-arrest PBT.

Biancalana faces charges of Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication, and Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail.
