Two Iowa City Police officers were injured while chasing an underage drinking suspect from a downtown nightclub.
Officers were investigating a trespassing complaint at D.C.’s on the Ped Mall just before 1:30 Saturday morning when they asked for an ID from 18-year-old Wyatt Chivari of Sugar Grove, Illinois. Chivari reportedly gave them a fake name and date of birth before fleeing on foot. A chase ensued, ending with Chivari’s capture and two officers suffering unspecified injuries. Police say Chivari was in possession of a fake ID and showed signs of intoxication. He allegedly refused breath testing.
Chivari is charged with two counts of Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury and one count each of Providing False Identity Information, Possession of a Fake ID and Public Intoxication.
If convicted on all charges against him, Chivari faces a maximum of over three years in jail.
