An Iowa City woman was arrested Wednesday night after an alleged assault on her domestic partner.

Police were called to the Westgate Street apartment of 24-year-old Abril Mendez on reports of a possible fight. The victim reported that Mendez became upset when she found out that she was seeing other people.

During the alleged confrontation, Mendez reportedly punched the woman in the face, bit her thigh, and scratched her over multiple areas of her body.  During the incident, the woman attempted to leave multiple times, but Mendez allegedly stopped her by pulling on her and taking her car keys.

Police say Mendez, who had visible marks from the altercation, admitted to biting the victim.

The two have been in a relationship for approximately 5 years.

Mendez was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury and False Imprisonment.  She faces a maximum jail sentence of two years if convicted on both counts.
