A man convicted in an Iowa City armed robbery case is back behind bars after allegedly violating his parole.
32-year-old Dakota Williams was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 3:15 Thursday afternoon. Williams was charged with Operating While Intoxicated in Cedar Rapids last Saturday. He was on an alcohol monitoring program as part of his parole.
Williams was on parole after being sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2011 when he pleaded guilty to 1st Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Robbery charges in connection with a 2010 incident on the 900 block of North Dodge Street. Iowa City Police say Williams entered an apartment and ordered a resident to give him money at gunpoint. A struggle ensued and the gun went off, injuring the victim. Williams fled on foot, but was later captured in Solon. Williams was a senior at Solon High School at the time of the robbery.
A conviction on the OWI charge…or even proof that Williams had been consuming alcohol… could mean the revocation of his parole.
