A transient has been arrested after an assault at Shelter House left the victim unconscious.
Iowa City Police say just after 4:45 Wednesday afternoon 44-year-old Kelli Rehwinkel witnessed the victim in an argument with another person. Rehwinkel allegedly struck the reported victim in the side of the head while the woman was turned away from her, knocking her to the ground. The woman got up and confronted Rehwinkle, which led to Rehwinkel reportedly striking the woman in the head again, knocking her unconscious and causing bleeding from her mouth.
Rehwinkel is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, she faces up to one year in jail.
