A recent countywide Sex Offender Registry compliance check has led to multiple arrests.

According to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the compliance checks were conducted by multiple agencies over the course of September 22nd and September 23rd. The goal of the operation was to ensure all registered sex offenders residing in Johnson County were registered in accordance with Iowa law.

During the operation, law enforcement checked 151 registered offenders; 148 of whom were found in compliance and two were non-compliant, with charges pending. Law enforcement also determined one individual had passed away and the registry was unaware of the death.

Four Johnson County residents have been charged with sex offender violations in the last week. They include 46-year-old Justin Washpun of 19th Avenue in Coralville, 38-year-old Alonzo Perry of Catskill Court in Iowa City, and a pair of residents of the Iowa Lodge on The Coralville Strip, including 33-year-old Devon Kent and 42-year-old Shunrome Pogue.

Washpun and Pogue face felony charges because it’s their second such offense. They could each spend up to five years in prison, if convicted. Kent and Perry are charged with Aggravated Misdemeanors for their first offenses and could each spend up to two years in jail.
