The recently-fired executive director of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors is now running for a seat on the board as a write-in candidate.

Guillermo Morales was terminated earlier this month by a 3-2 vote. Supervisor Rod Sullivan accused Morales of conducting “insubordinate, disrespectful and argumentative behavior” towards supervisors Lisa Green-Douglas and Royceann Porter as well as other county staffers. Those three supervisors were the three who approved the firing.

Morales is a former member of the campaign staff of Supervisor V Fixmer-Oraiz, who along with Jon Green voted against the termination.

Morales, who has retained an attorney and told the Press-Citizen he plans to sue the county for wrongful termination, also told the newspaper he has received numerous messages of support. That support has led him to announce plans to run as a write-in candidate for one of three contested seats in the next election. His supporters have created the hashtag “JoCoWriteHimIn”, as well as the web site jocowritehimin.com.

The election is set for November 5th.
