A subject who had already been banned from an Iowa City convenience store now faces criminal charges after allegedly yelling racial slurs at a pair of customers.

Iowa City Police were called to Kwik Star on Keokuk Street just after 3:45 on the morning of August 29th. According to arrest records, 73-year-old Ronal Rarey of Cross Park Place confronted two customers by waving his arms toward them, flashing his middle finger at them, and yelling, “ghetto”, “fat bitch” and the n-word. Both women later told police they feared for their safety.

Rarey, who was banned from the store the previous day, is now charged with two counts of 3rd Degree Harassment. If convicted on Both counts he faces a maximum of 60 days in jail.

Trial is set for November 5th.
