Crews extinguish Cedar River logjam fire

A logjam on the Cedar River caught fire Saturday afternoon, presenting a challenge to firefighters.

CBS2 reports First responders were called to the Cedar River Bridge along Highway 100 around 3:50pm. When they arrived, they found a logjam of dead trees had collected against the Iowa Northern Railroad Bridge and some had caught fire.

Crews from Palo, Atkins and Shellsburg shut down one eastbound lane to give them room to work. A hose line was lowered to firefighters on a sand bar below and they were able to successfully extinguish the fire.

The bridge was not damaged, and no injuries were reported.
