Muscatine Police acting on an anonymous tip rescued 20 dogs from a residence there Thursday.

The Muscatine Journal reports the Muscatine Humane Society closed its doors on Thursday and Friday to take care of the animals as they were brought in.

The anonymous tip led the Muscatine Police to get a search warrant on the property, where they found the dogs living in what Animal Control officer Courtney Patel called “horrible conditions.”

Patel said there have been an unusual number of situations where hoarded animals were living in dangerous conditions and had to be rescued. She encouraged the public to continue say something if they sense something isn’t right.

The investigation continues; charges have yet to be filed.
