UI Police investigate social media post indicating subject was making a bomb at Slater Hall

University of Iowa Police have investigated a report that someone was making a bomb inside a west side residence hall, determining there was no threat to the public.

According to a post on the UI Police web site, at about 9:00 Sunday night officers were made aware of a concerning social media post in reference to the possibility that a student was making explosives in Slater Residence Hall on Grand Avenue. The post in question showed various items and containers and the text “time to cook.”

UI Police responded immediately to investigate with the assistance of the department’s explosives detection canine team, as well as an officer who serves on the bomb squad.

Responding officers quickly made contact with the person who made the post, who was fully cooperative. Following a thorough investigation and interview, police determined there was no threat to public safety.
