An Iowa City woman is accused of assaulting another woman over a comment about an ice cooler.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says 31-year-old Jazmin Vazquez Lopez was hosting guests in her residence in the Modern Manor manufactured housing community just after 4:45 on the morning of August 17th when one of the people present made a comment about Vazquez Lopez’s ice cooler. Vazquez Lopez reportedly became irate, and one guest took her mother into a bedroom to collect their things before leaving. Vazquez Lopez allegedly followed them into the room and yelled at them, then punched the younger woman several times in the head and face. The woman fell to the ground, and Vazquez Lopez reportedly continued the assault by kicking her. The woman and her mother were eventually able to flee the trailer and call 9-1-1, but not before the woman suffered several visible injuries.
Arriving deputies say they spoke to Vazquez Lopez from outside the residence. She claimed she was someone else, that Vazquez Lopez wasn’t home, and she was going to call her lawyer if the officers didn’t leave. A review of video from a previous call for service reportedly showed the woman inside the trailer was Vazquez Lopez.
Vazquez Lopez is now charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, she faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
