Three congressional Libertarian candidates who were removed from the general election ballot are asking the courts to overturn an Iowa state panel’s ruling.
The Gazette reports the Libertarians also asked the courts to order a pause on the printing of election ballots until their legal challenge is resolved.
Earlier this week, the three-member State Objection Panel voted 2-1 to uphold challenges against Libertarian nominees Nicholas Gluba in the 1st District, Marco Battaglia in the 3rd District and Charles Aldrich in the 4th District, ruling that the party failed to follow the proper procedures when nominating them for office.
The Iowa Secretary of State’s Office plans to certify the ballots for the general election on Tuesday, which would mean ballots could then start being printed. The Libertarian candidates have asked for an expedited ruling and a temporary emergency injunction preventing ballots from being printed until a ruling is made.
