City of Coralville news release
See information below regarding upcoming changes to traffic flow at the 1st Avenue & I-80 interchange (Exit 242). The project is 90% complete and still on track to have all permanent lane improvements open by the end of 2024.
- The new, longer I-80 eastbound off-ramp to 1st Avenue will open (see image below).
- The new Iowa River Landing Place connection to 1st Avenue will open.
- 1st Avenue will have intermittent lane closures approaching and within the interchange to complete final work on traffic signals, raised medians, and landscaping.
- Note the following:

- Traffic signals, pavement markings, and traffic signage will help drivers understand how to navigate through the interchange.
The Iowa Department of Transportation is managing this project. Please check their 511ia.org website for project updates and real-time traffic conditions.
About the Project
The Iowa Department of Transportation is reconstructing the interchange at I-80 exit 242 and 1st Avenue with a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). Major construction started in March 2023. Drivers should anticipate traffic delays during intermittent lane closures and plan accordingly.
