Reportedly slashing another person with a box cutter has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.

Iowa City Police allege that 56-year-old Lonzo Powers attacked another man with a box cutter outside his residence in the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street at 7:00 last Thursday night.  The victim had injuries consistent with being slashed by a box cutter, and he received several stitches at local hospital.

Powers allegedly admitted to slashing the man with the box cutter. He’s charged with Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury, Going Armed With Intent, and Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 12 years in prison.

Powers is already awaiting a December 17th trial on a Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury charge after allegedly stabbing a man several times near the intersection of Clinton and Washington Streets in April. That charge carries a maximum ten-year prison sentence upon conviction.
