An Iowa City man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a juvenile who is pregnant with his child.

The incident occurred July 16th at the Robert A Lee Recreation Center at around 4pm.  19-year-old Devon Porter of South Lucas Street and the girl had a verbal exchange that escalated into a physical assault.  Porter allegedly walked toward the girl in an aggressive manner and punched her in the face.  He then grabbed her and shoved her against a wall.

The girl tried to push Porter away and put her arm up, but he allegedly bit her forearm.  He then stood in front of the girl, preventing her from leaving.  He allegedly grabbed her again, pushed her against the wall and punched her in the face multiple times as she struggled to get away from Porter.

He then reportedly punched her in the face one more time before letting her go and walking away.

The victim suffered swelling below her left eye and had a bite mark on her forearm. At the time of the incident, she was 8 months pregnant with Porter’s child.

A warrant for his arrest was issued on July 23rd; he was charged Friday with Assault causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to a year if convicted.

Judge Jason Burns issued a no-contact order between Porter and the victim. Porter will be arraigned at a later date.
