If you’ve noticed more people getting COVID recently, you’re not alone.
The state Department of Health and Human Services says positive COVID-19 tests in the state were at 20.7% during the week ending August 3rd, the highest proportion in more than a year and significantly higher than the 9.7% rate in the same week a year ago.
Iowa Capital Dispatch reports the rise in COVID-19 numbers is still far below reported figures from earlier in the pandemic, but are an increase compared to recent months. The Iowa surge is part of a national trend, as COVID-19 is being reported at higher rates across all regions of the U.S. in the past month.
As the number of cases continue to rise, the Centers for Disease Control recommend getting the updated vaccine as it becomes available. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services says just 15.6% of Iowans were immunized as of August 8th.
