A North Liberty man who was wanted for a pretrial release violation has been taken into custody.

35-year-old Richard Casey of Greencastle Avenue NW was arrested in May for Driving While Barred and Meth possession. He was released to the Department of Correctional Services and issued a written plea of not guilty during arraignment July 8th.

A week later on July 15th, Casey was arrested and charged with Failure to Affix Tax Stamp and Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons when an officer was dispatched to the parking lot of Autumn Park Apartments in Iowa City for a report of a male sleeping in a blue Ford F150. Upon arrival the Officer made contact with the defendant who was sleeping in the driver’s seat. Casey was reportedly slow to wake up and sat forward, revealing a glass pipe with burnt residue inside behind his back.

A search of Casey located a large bag of methamphetamine; an AR15 style rifle and semi-automatic shotgun were located just behind the driver’s seat.

A warrant revoking Casey’s pre-trial release was issued on July 18th. He was picked up in Tiffin Wednesday morning on the 1700 block of Croell Avenue after a deputy saw him behind the wheel of the same vehicle he was operating when arrested on the 15th of July.

Casey faces several charges, including person ineligible to possess dangerous weapons, failure to affix drug stamp, meth possession and two counts of driving while barred. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to fifteen years in prison.
