A Tiffin man arrested for OWI was allegedly found with a fictitious ID despite being old enough to drink.
23-year-old Jaden Cleaver of Village Drive was stopped at the Caseys at Dubuque and Market Street at 1:50am Monday for driving the wrong way on a one-way street. He allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, impaired speech, and had the odor of alcohol on his person. He reportedly admitted to drinking, and a Datamaster showed his breath-alcohol level at .104 percent.
A probable cause search of Cleaver’s vehicle allegedly found a Bersa Thunder .45 caliber pistol, a small container of THC wax and a vaporizer with THC residue. His wallet also contained a fictitious ID despite the fact that he is of legal drinking age. He reportedly flexed his arms while being handcuffed to resist arrest.
A passenger in the vehicle, 23-year-old Alejandra Gaspar Ramirez of Ottumwa, left the vehicle and ignored officer’s commands to get back in the car. Once she returned to the vehicle, she allegedly left again, and slapped an officer’s arm as he tried to get her under control. Police say she was visibly intoxicated, with poor balance, bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech.
An officer who went back to the car to retrieve Ramirez’ purse for her reportedly found a Taurus 9mm handgun.
Cleaver was charged with OWI 2nd offense, marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts, Person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, Possession of dangerous weapons while intoxicated, and Possession of Fictitious ID. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over six years in prison.
Gaspar Ramirez was charged with Interference with Official Acts, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Public Intoxication, and Person ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons. She faces a possible maximum jail sentence of 26 months if convicted on all charges.
