An Iowa City shoplifting suspect is also accused of picking up another person’s prescription at a Coralville pharmacy by claiming to be the man’s nephew.

Coralville Police say 21-year-old Seth McBurney entered Walgreen’s on the Coralville Strip just after 5:15 on the night of February 4th and told staff he was picking up his uncle’s medications, giving them the man’s name and date of birth. McBurney reportedly left the pharmacy with 30 tablets of Lorazepam. The man with the prescription later told investigators he does not know McBurney.

McBurney was taken into custody just after 6:00 Saturday night after Iowa City Police say he was caught stealing a pair of JBL speakers from the downtown Target.

McBurney is now charged with Prohibited Acts Involving a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs, and 5th Degree Theft. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over three years in jail.

McBurney has listed home addresses in both Hiawatha and on Ashley Drive in Iowa City.
