An Iowa City man was arrested after allegedly standing naked in the street, then attempting to elude officers who located him later in the day.

Officers responded to the 300 block of East Benton Street at 6:40pm Sunday on reports of a man standing in the street naked.  The reporting party pointed out area transient Benjamin Sieverding to officers as the man in question.

The 31- year-old Sieverding, who was clothed by that time, allegedly continued to walk away from officers and was unable to provide correct answers to their questions.  He then reportedly began yelling at officers and ran away.  Another officer cut him off and told him to stop but he refused to comply. He then allegedly swung at an officer who was trying to grab him.

Sieverding was eventually tased and brought under control. He was searched at the hospital and a glass meth pipe was allegedly found in his pocket.

A warrant was issued, and Sieverding was arrested Thursday evening. He’s charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Interference with Official Acts, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Sieverding faces up to 14 months in jail if convicted on all counts.
