A months-long reconstruction project in downtown Iowa City is set to be significantly completed by the end of the month.

The Press-Citizen reports the Dubuque Street infrastructure project caused the street to close in March between Iowa Avenue and Washington Street. During that time, crews have installed a new 12-inch water main, a new sanitary sewer and storm sewer system, updates to the roadway, ADA-compliant sidewalks and street crossings, and new light fixtures.

Iowa City Senior Civil Engineer Alin Dumachi tells the newspaper that the sidewalks and streets will be 100 percent completed by the end of August.  Plantings and additional lighting will be added soon after.

The alley near the Sports Column and Studio 13 is also part of the project. Construction there has started but will not be finished until mid-fall.

The Dubuque Street project is one of several planned in the coming years to improve downtown Iowa City’s infrastructure.
