An Iowa City man was arrested Sunday morning after an alleged assault on his live-in girlfriend.

The woman called police to report that she had been assaulted the night before by 44-year-old Lennell Caldwell. She reported that Caldwell jumped on her and beat her. Arriving officers observed several marks on the woman’s body that corroborated her narrative, including scratches on her neck and chest, bruises on her left arm, and bruising and scratching to her left knee.

The couple reportedly have been living together for about a year. Caldwell was located outside the couple’s College Street apartment building and arrested. He’s charged with Domestic Abuse Assault 2nd offense, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.

A no-contact order was issued between the couple.
