Iowa City man with lengthy criminal record charged with harassment

An Iowa City man with a long series of arrests for public intoxication has been charged with the more serious crime of harassment.
According to the criminal complaint, 64-year-old Russell Weston was at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics during the noon hour August 1st. While he was being treated at the ER, Weston allegedly threatened to choke, kill and cut off the head of a nursing staff member.
A warrant was issued the next day. Weston was charged in court with 1st degree Harassment on Monday. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to two years in jail. Weston was released to the custody of the Department of Correctional Services ahead of arraingment and was served a No-Contact Order between himself and the alleged victim.
