An Iowa City man with a lengthy criminal history has been arrested again for reported assaults against women.
Iowa City Police arrested 33-year-old Kelvin Ware of Muscatine Avenue just before 7:45 Saturday night after he reportedly assaulted a woman on the 2400 block of Taylor Drive. The alleged victim reported Ware had grabbed her by the throat and thrown her to the ground. Witnesses corroborated the account.
While being taken into custody, Ware allegedly threw a clear, plastic baggy of a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana on the ground.
Ware was wanted for a reported June 26th assault on Taft Avenue. The alleged victim in that case said she was on a date with Ware just before 10:45 p.m. when she asked him to leave and arranged a ride home for him. Police say Ware responded by striking her in the face and spitting in her face.
Ware is also accused of following a protected party in a no-contact order after she got off a bus at the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street on the afternoon of July 8th. He allegedly verbally harassed the woman and spoke to the children who were with her.
Ware is charged with three counts of Assault, one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance – 2nd Offense, and a no-contact order violation. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 27 months in jail.
Ware has multiple previous domestic abuse charges against him, with most being pleaded down to lesser charges.
