Iowa City man arrested for intoxication additionally charged with Sex Offender violations

An Iowa City man who had a dangerous BAC when picked up for public intoxication last weekend has been additionally charged with sex offender violations.

27-year-old Anthony Kapayou was arrested Friday night after being called in as an intoxicated subject, and was reportedly found to have a breath-alcohol level of .321 percent. Medical experts say at that stage, individuals likely have alcohol poisoning and can experience loss of consciousness, coma and even death.

Kapayou was taken into custody, and a check of his criminal record showed that he was classified as a Tier III Sex Offender after a conviction in July 2015 for Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse in Tama County. He is required to appear in person at the Sheriff’s Office in the county of his primary residence, which he failed to do on the last three occasions.

Kapayou now faces three counts of sex offender verification violation, each a Class D felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
