A Cedar Rapids man has been taken into custody for his alleged part in a riot on the Ped Mall last month.

Iowa City Police say 20-year-old Ayrondus Hodges of K Street SW was involved in a fight involving about two dozen people near the intersection of College and Dubuque Streets just after 12:45 on the morning of July 21st. Arrest records indicate Hodges punched and stomped on people while they were defenseless on the ground. The fight was eventually broken up, but after officers left the area Hodges and five other people allegedly tackled another person and stomped on him. Police returned to the scene and broke up that incident, and Hodges fled on foot. Both incidents were captured on video, and a warrant was issued for Hodges’ arrest.

Police took Hodges into custody after they found him inside TCB Pool Hall on the Ped Mall just after 11:45 Saturday night. A baggie of marijuana was reportedly found on his person.

Hodges is charged with Participating in a Riot and Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of six years in prison.
