A Coralville man accused of dognapping has entered a not guilty plea.
30-year-old Aleksander Czerwinski of Hanover Park, Illinois entered the plea on Friday.  According to arrest records, Czerwinski took an emotional support dog from The Landing apartments on East 9th Street just before 11:15 on the night of April 21st. Czerwinski allegedly took the dog off its original leash, put it on his own personal leash, then walked away as the victim watched. Czerwinski reportedly had no right to the dog, which the victim had purchased herself.
The dog is valued at $1,700.
Czerwinski is charged with 2nd Degree Theft. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison. On Friday, Judge Jason Burns set a case management conference for September 23rd.
