Iowa City Police say a suspect hit his wife over the head with a rock, then threatened arriving officers with a hammer.

According to arrest records, 64-year-old Tarig Badri Hag struck his wife over the head with a rock at the couple’s Gryn Drive residence just before 11:00 Tuesday night. The woman later told investigators her husband had also put his hands around her throat and applied pressure during a physical altercation.

Arriving officers found the woman with a visible cut on her head and blood down her face and arm. They told Badri Hag not to go back inside the house, but he reportedly ignored their commands, went inside, and came back out wielding a hammer. Police say he refused to drop the object and was tased.

Badri Hag and his wife have been married for 15 years and have children together. He now faces charges of Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury, Domestic Abuse Assault, Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow, and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over seven years in prison.
