Iowa City Police have arrested a man they say continued assaulting a subject he had already knocked unconscious.

The incident reportedly happened just before 11:45 on the night of July 13th in the parking lot of the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street. Police say 32-year-old Town & Campus resident Janard Goins and an unidentified co-defendant punched and stomped another subject to the point of unconsciousness.  While the man was lying unresponsive on the ground, the two allegedly continued punching and kicking him and stomping on his head. The subject was transported to a local hospital, where he received several stitches. The incident was captured on video.

Goins was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 10:45 Friday morning and charged with Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.

Goins is already awaiting an October 1st trial on a 1st Degree Burglary charge after he allegedly broke into a G Street residence last year and assaulted someone inside in a dispute over money. That charge carries a maximum 25 year sentence upon conviction.
