Embers escaping from a charcoal grill led to a fire that caused extensive damage to a Cedar Rapids home.

According to a release from the city’s fire department, crews responded to a single family residence in the 4100 block of Majestic Ct NE Tuesday at 9:04a.m. for the report of a fire.  Crews arrived on-scene and found fire had already heavily damaged the back deck and walls, and had extended into the interior of the home, especially the attic and roof.

Firefighting efforts were successful but the home suffered extensive damage.

Firefighters confirmed occupants and pets were safely out of the house and suffered no injuries.

Fire investigators were able to determine the blaze was an unintentional result of embers escaping from a charcoal grill.
