An Iowa City man faces prison time after a traffic stop allegedly led to drug and firearm charges.

According to police, 31-year-old Andrew Villgrana of Erobi Lane was northbound on Highway 218 at around 5:45 pm Friday when a deputy reportedly clocked him going 82 in a 65 miles-per-hour zone. Additionally Villgrana’s BMW had no front plate and tinted windows.

A traffic stop was initiated, and the odor of marijuana was allegedly detected. A probable cause search reportedly located two large boxes of THC vape pens, a mason jar containing raw marijuana, and a scale.

The glove box allegedly contained a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun.

Villgrana was charged with a controlled substance violation, marijuana possession, person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over seven years in prison.
