An Iowa City man faces drug charges after a being stopped for driving while barred.
An officer observed 51-year-old Charles Horn near his Taft Avenue home at around 12:30 am on June 17th. Once he noticed a deputy was behind him, Horn attempted to turn around in a farm drive, and stuck his head out the driver’s side window. It was then that the deputy recognized him and knew him to be barred from driving.
A traffic stop was initiated, and Horn allegedly had the odor of marijuana on his person. A probable cause search turned up a baggie of marijuana, as well as three other baggies reportedly containing methamphetamine. A backpack in the vehicle was also searched, and reportedly turned up two jars containing THC wax, a digital scale, and three meth pipes, and unused plastic bags typically used for drug storage. Horn’s cellphone rang several times during the stop, each time reportedly from the same phone number.
After positively identifying the substances as drugs, Horn was charged with a Class B controlled substance violation, Failure to affix Drug Stamp, Marijuana Possession, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Horn could be sentenced to over 32 years in prison.
