A local transient accused of brandishing a gun during an altercation at Shelter House has been given a deferred judgment.
Iowa City Police were dispatched to the Southgate Avenue shelter at 2:15pm on May 5th on reports of a fight in progress involving a gun.  Upon arrival, it was learned 24-year-old Rayvell Cunningham had drawn a 9mm pistol from a fanny pack and pointed it at another male while making threats to kill him.
Cunningham showed signs of intoxication and reportedly admitted to drinking. His breath alcohol level was measured at .153 percent.
Cunningham was charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon While Intoxicated, Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, and Public Intoxication.  If convicted on all counts, he could have been sentenced to over three years in jail.
Cunningham reached a plea deal with prosecutors, and on Thursday Judge Jason Burns gave him a deferred judgment on the assault charge. The other charges were dropped.
As part of the plea deal, Cunnigham had his gun rights revoked.
