A Chicago man was taken into custody late Tuesday night after an incident at the Coralville Reservoir.

46-year-old Jose Chavez reportedly believed that someone on the campground had taken his trailer and dragged it to a new location. He allegedly caused a loud disturbance among those at the campground, and informed a Johnson County deputy that he planned to shoot whoever took his trailer.

Chavez then reportedly began to attempt to stare down the couple by his trailer with an angry expression and made multiple additional statements about shooting whoever took his trailer.

Chavez was observed with signs of intoxication including unsteady balance, slurred speech, and had a moderate odor of ingested alcohol and perfume. He agreed to submit to a PBT, but allegedly spat or blew into the sample tube in an aggressive manner, causing an improper reading.

Chavez was charged with public intoxication and 1 st degree Harassment. If convicted on both charges, he could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail. A no-contact order was requested between Chavez and the couple.
