A Cedar Rapids woman charged in the January 2022 fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man reached a plea deal with prosecutors Monday.

34-year-old Pierra Baugh was originally charged with first-degree murder in the death of Cordell Lewis;  she pleaded to second-degree robbery, first-degree theft of a person, conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony and accessory after the fact.

Baugh was set to stand trial today. During Monday’s proceedings, she admitted that she planned and intended to rob Lewis with Kazius Childress, who fatally shot him.

The Gazette reports Sixth Judicial District Judge Christopher Bruns said by pleading guilty, Baugh admits to taking money and jewelry from Lewis and that she knew Childress killed him during the robbery. Baugh also admitted to concealing the gun used by Childress and aided Childress after the shooting.

Bruns said the charges will run consecutively to each other and Baugh must also serve a mandatory five years on the second-degree robbery conviction before being eligible for parole.

Linn County Attorney Nick Maybanks said Lewis’ family supported the plea agreement.

Baugh’s sentencing hasn’t been set yet. She faces up to 27 years in prison.
