The National Labor Relations Board has ruled that workers at an Iowa City Bruegger’s Bagels store can vote to unionize.

The Press-Citizen reports employees claim their plan to organize Bruegger’s Workers United would be the first unionization effort at a Bruegger’s anywhere in the country.

Workers at both the Iowa City Riverside Drive and Coralville location sought approval for a July 9th vote, but Coralville workers will not be eligible because that location has been closed since May 31st.

The downtown Iowa City Bruegger’s is not part of the vote.

Representatives with Bruegger’s declined to comment on the ongoing union activity.
