An Iowa City Walmart employee is accused of scheming with his significant other to steal cash and merchandise from his employer.
According to arrest records, 27-year-old Angelo Ibern of Michael Street was working checkout at Walmart on the evening of June 9th when his significant other came through his line with groceries. Ibern allegedly refused to scan a number of items before bagging them. He also reportedly gave the significant other more change than was owed. The total amount of unscanned merchandise was $55.07, with the unowed change amounting to $22.20.
Iowa City Police say Ibern later admitted to intentionally not scanning the items, but he claimed he did not intentionally give the wrong amount of change.
Ibern is charged with 5th Degree Theft. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 30 days in jail.
