Former Hawkeye pitcher Ty Langenberg won his Midwest League debut with the Cedar Rapids Kernels Sunday afternoon.
The Kernels held on for a 9-8 victory over the Lugnuts in Lansing. In earning the win, Langenberg pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits while striking out seven with three walks.
The right-hander was promoted Tuesday from low-Class A Fort Myers to high-Class A Cedar Rapids. Langenberg was 3-3 in Fort Myers with a 3.38 ERA in nine starts, including going 3-0 in his last five. He will likely make his first home start this week in Cedar Rapids as the Kernels host Peoria Tuesday through Sunday.
