A 15-year-old was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a two-vehicle accident in Washington County that injured five people, including four children.
The Iowa State Patrol says a semi hauling a large load was going under a railroad bridge on Highway 1 in Washington just after 10:00 Thursday morning when the equipment it was carrying got caught and was pulled off the bed, striking a 2005 Honda that was travelling behind it.
Five Wayland residents inside the Honda…identified by the State Patrol as 61-year-old Kathy Gugel, 17-year-old Abigail Creamer, 15-year-old Josiah Creamer, 13-year-old Gideon Creamer and 12-year-old Hannah Creamer…were injured. The driver, Josiah Creamer, was airlifted to the UIHC by AirCare. Hannah Creamer was transported to the UIHC via ambulance, and the other three occupants were taken to the Washington County Hospital by private vehicle.
The driver of the semi, 49-year-old David Herr of Fremont, was uninjured.
The accident remains under investigation.
